Celebrating 50 Years: Historic Projects

The Viaduct of Moresnet (the Geul Valley bridge) is a railway bridge high above the village of Moresnet in east Belgium.

The Geul Valley bridge (52 m high, 1.107 m long) was built during the First World War. By the 1990s it had fallen into such disrepair that trains crossing it were restricted to a maximum speed of 20 km/h.

An extensive restoration was undertaken of the existing bridge between February 2002 and October 2004.

Each of the old steel bridge-deck sections was replaced. In order to minimize disruption to traffic, the steel bridge-deck sections were assembled off-site and then positioned using a specially prepared overhead crane structure.

PLPCOATINGS are very proud to have provided the industrial coating for this historic project.
